Scrap the Boys September Challenge

This month your challenge is to use household/family ephemera on your layouts. Now this can be anything from clothing labels, toy packaging, gift cards or cards from birthdays, ticket stubs etc....

and here is my take on the challenge. Luckily I had thrown all of Blake's clothing tags in a dish in my scrap room so when I read the brief I had the perfect excuse to use them. Not my normal style, really messy and I spilled a bottle of glimmermist all over my scrap desk while I was creating this. Aaaarrrrggghhhh Mr Hart, what a mess.

So head over here and make sure you upload your challenge by the end of the month. Good luck xxx

August Scrap the Boys Challenge

AUGUST CHALLENGE...

Is to use this inspiration image to inspire your layout, please remember that your layouts must be created solely for STB and can not be used for any other challenge.

and so this is what I came up with, I took inspiration from the colours and the stripes. Made it really easy to choose papers. Added some paint and doodling and it came together really easily.

There is a funny story behind the photos. We were camping at Pottsville with friends last September holidays and we found this little blow up boat and of course the kids wanted to use it straight away, we had no 12 volt pump so we pumped it up with a bike pump. Took us forever. Didn't even realise until we were done that the kids had no paddles, they were smart enough to go and get their sand shovels and use them.

and a close-up of some gorgeous goodies from A Lil' Somethin'. I picked up the tag and gorgeous flag from them a while ago. Love their handmade embellies. Hop over to their blog and check them out, each release is a different colour scheme.

That is it for my scrapping at the moment. Onto week two of my photography course, trying to complete all the projects so I have been a bit busy. My big boy and little girl are away on the National Capital Tour to Canberra at the moment. They are a bit excited, presently they are on their way up to the snow so a full day on the slopes tomorrow. First time Megs has ever seen the snow too. Hope she has a great time and doesn't fall over too many times.

So make sure you pop over and join in this month's challenge, I really love this one.

A bit busy

Sorry I haven't been around much, have been busy with my photography and have just started a new course Love Your Camera II with Angie Baxter. It is very full-on, a project a day. I started late because I was in Geelong with the girl at Nationals for hip hop. By the way, they came fourth which is a huge effort, but missed out on selection to go to the World titles.

Anyways here are my first two - Self Portrait

Yeah I know, I cheated a bit, but I had to take the photo myself and closeups of my face is seriously scary.

And my second project - Explore

We had to take our camera somewhere different and the subject had to be something we hadn't photographed before. So I hit the shops and photographed this in a little homewares store. Am really thrilled with this one. So anyways that is what I'm up to. Still no scrapping but it will come ......... I hope............

July Scrap the Boys Challenge and a CT Call

This month your challenge is to use TAPE on your layout, this can be decorative tape, masking tape or even think outside of the square and make your own.
You also need to use PLAY in your title.

And here is my take on the challenge. I bought some of that awesome Tim Holtz tape a while back so had a great excuse to use it. I also used some of new/old favourites, those Making Memories magnetic alphas, love using stuff I have had forever.

Meeting some new girls

We are so lucky to have a fantastic Scrapbooking Expo in Brissie every June Queen's birthday long weekend. Girls travel from all over Australia to come, they always have fab teachers and classes and it so nice to meet scrapper's that I talk to online and catch up with those ladies I only get to see once a year or so.

I got there really early on Saturday morning and first up I had Louise Nelson's class. We did a double layout, of course I didn't finish it, but the reason I took the class was to learn some of Lou's awesome techniques. She is one of my fave scrappers and does some awesome art inspired layouts. So not me, but I am going to push myself a bit harder to use some more mixed media on my layouts.

I had a quick look around and met up with these lovely ladies from The Boxx -

Leanne Jago, Belinda Lowe (BB), Mary Bennetts, Annette Edmonds, Kim Ewins and Noelene Fairweather. I have spent a weekend scrapping with Leanne and Belinda, but it was lovely to meet the three girls from Orange, NSW and Noelene. OMGoodness, Mary, Annette and Kim were so lovely and exactly as I pictured them. What a hoot!!!!! I so wish they lived closer, these girls are so much fun, I would love to spend some scrappy time with them.

Elise came in in the arvo and we caught up for afternoon tea with the girls again and Donna from Rocky and shared all our purchases for the day.

Then it was back to the Mantra to meet up with Lauren Boase, Kat Glossop, Nic Pomeroy, Georgia Keays, Tatum Woodrooffe, Nat May, Lou Nelson and Sonia Thommasen. We all headed down to South Bank for a quick feed of Mexican then a coffee and dessert.
It was so lovely catching up with everyone again, these girls are all so awesome. I wish we all lived closer.

Who has a tween that loves High School Musical?

I know I do!!!! We have watched all three DVD's so many times I think they are almost worn out.

So the next instalment is Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure, just watched the youtube clip and it looks great, lots of pink frothy dresses, lots of Sharpay attitude and Miss Megs would like it NOW please. It is due for release at the end of June but if you would like to win a copy head over to Lisa Warren's blog and leave a comment to be in with a chance.

My Scraproom Rules

So the next My Scraproom Rules challenge is up at Scrapping Outback. The challenge was set by the amazing Trudi Harrison and the criteria was -

Now this challenge was more like me. Here is my interpretation -

and a close-up including this gorgeous denim flower from Lil Red Rocket -

So I am finally scrapping and it feels good. Now really have to get organised and do my Scrap the Boys challenge for next month - stay tuned.

A Lil' Something

Do you have boys and struggle to find suitable embellishments? Then pop on over here and check out what these two lovely ladies have been doing -

Their next release will be available Sat 28th 19:30AEST… go and check out their blog to find out how it all works. And if you spread the word you can win a pack of their goodies.

Good luck everyone!!!!!

My Scraproom Rules

Because I really haven't been scrapping much at all I thought I would get involved in a comp to try and get me motivated again.

Scrapping Outback are running one at present called My Scraproom Rules, so I joined in. The first challenge asked for us to do lots of fussy cutting, distressing, use some chipboard and cut it up and hand make at least three flowers.

Talk about way out of my comfort zone, I do not make flowers, couldn't be bothered. I would rather rip open a packet of gorgeous Prima. I do not fussy cut, don't have the patience. So this whole challenge was a doozy for me. Needless to say I procrastinated big time, started last night and finally uploaded at 11.40pm with 20 minutes to spare. Talk about cutting it fine.

Anyways, here is my layout -

And lots of close-ups

Yep I handcut all those postage stamps. I have no idea what I was thinking, that was lots of fun (NOT!!!!).

So it's all over and done with and I'm happy with the end result, even though it is totally not my style.

The next challenge set by Trudi Harrison is up so head over and check it out.

Happy Mother's Day

I hope all you ladies had a lovely Mother's Day. We had a nice relaxing lunch with fish and chips down at Paradise Point, at the park on the Broadwater. It was lovely, the kids had a bit of a play and Ash and I lay in the sun for a while. Ash was taking some pickies of the kids and I and a lady offered to take a photo of all of us. I was so grateful, we never seem to get a family photo, so here we are -

No matching outfits, but a very treasured photo all the same. I think I could fix it by changing it to black and white which I may do to scrap.

Megs made a lovely card for me and Blake bought home a little pressie he bought me at Movieworld yesterday, a lovely crystal prism with my star sign. I was really surprised he actually thought of me while he was out having fun at a birthday party. Will wonders never cease - LOL. I am a tad proud of them both. I told Ash no pressies, I am desparately in need of a new camera, I have my eyes on a Nikon D7000, so I told him not to buy anything. I think I may save my birthday and maybe try for it for Christmas.

We ducked over to the factory outlets and did a spot of shopping and I did score a lovely top, dirt cheap so I couldn't leave it there. The kids got a couple of things as well.

I'll try and be back to post tomorrow about Creative Block, I had a huge three days and met some lovely people. Got some great pickies as well.

May Scrap the Boys challenge

This months challenge is to...

SCRAP A LAYOUT ABOUT A COLLECTION THAT YOUR SON OR HUSBAND HAS.
THIS COULD BE LEGO, ARMY MEN, TEDDIES, DINOSAURS, TOYS OR BOOKS...

so here is mine, better late than never.......

It seems the latest fad for 10 year old boys is Beyblades. Blake is obsessed with them and spends all his spare money on buying different ones and taking them apart and making new ones. He loves to see which parts makes the fastest most attacking Beyblade, so hence my layout, he has a whole collection of them.

And here is a close-up

Thanks to Leanne Jago for giving me the rolled up newspaper, I quite like the effect.

So pop on over the the Scrap the Boys blog and post your entry before 31st May. Anna's Craft Cupboard and 2 Crafty are the generous sponsors this month.

Creative Block

Just a quick one, I just wanted to let you all know I am working over at Creative Block at Printblocks this week. Anyone going???? If so grab me and say "hello". I think I'll be helping out on the manufacturer's stands this time around, unless it changes. Can't wait to catch up with some scrappy friends.

Nothing to show, I am all scrapped out at the moment, far too busy with school hols etc. We have just had a long weekend up at Moogerah Dam. We packed up the carav
an and camped with some great friends. The kids had a ball on the tubes and kneeboards and Ash even got up on the wakeboard. Sigh....... I love two weeks of school hols followed by a long weekend. But back to reality now, work and school and the usual runaround. And hopefully some time for some scrapping.

April Scrap the Boys Challenge

APRIL CHALLENGETHE CHALLENGE IS TO GET INSPIRED BY AN OUTFIT THAT YOUR SON OR HUSBAND WEARS TO CREATE A LAYOUT...** You need to use the photo of the outfit (obviously being worn by your son or hubby) inspiration could be the colours, patterns, textures etc...

So of course I had to scrap about the dude. He is obsessed with anything "skate" at the moment. That's all he wants to wear, skate gear. So instead of scrapping about one piece of clothing I scrapped about his whole style.

The layout is also very skate inspired, with loads of Maya mists and grunge stamping.

So hoping you all can participate this month, head over here to upload your layout.

Don't forget your entries

Hi ho everyone,

Just popping in to remind you to get your entries in for this months Scrap the Boys challenge.

This month your challenge is to use a specific TIME as your layout's title...- Capture a moment in your day that you want to remember, part of your daily routine or something special the kids or hubby has on, or a specific day or moment that you want to remember. You then need to use that time/date as your layout title. You need to link your entry to this post no later than 11.59pm 31st March...

And on another note, my photography course with Sheye Rosemeyer is all done and dusted. I can't believe how much I have learnt, but it made me want to learn more. I even got to go to a real live clothing photoshoot and help out. Got some beautiful shots for my portfolio (thanks Tam). The next step is a 10 day Photoshop course which Sheye is running in May, if you are interested pop over to the Eye Candy site and send her a quick email. It is all online so makes it easier, especially when our lives are so busy.

Scrapping today, have to get my layout done for the next Scrap the Boys challenge.

xx Deb

Thursday, March 17, 2011

Sorry I have been a slack blogger

But I've been a bit busy, well in fact very busy. I've been doing Sheye Rosemeyer's Eye Candy Explore workshop. I am in the last week of it now, it has been awfully time consuming but I have learned so much. And I have finally got it, apertures, f-stops, ISO's, all makes total sense now. I am shooting in full manual now and the only stress I have about it is learning to juggle all the buttons and remembering to watch the light meter. I know it won't be long and it will be second nature. Just a quick shot the other day for one of the weekly modules, dude was not being very co-operative, all he wanted to do was get to Toyworld to buy a new Beyblade. I got a couple of okay shots, but really love this one. We are editing this week so I am hoping to get my photos up to scratch soon.

If you are thinking of doing a photography course I would highly recommend this one.

No scrapping at the moment but hopefully will have time after next week. I have a few things due by the end of the month so will have to pull my finger out.

Hopefully will be back soon with some layouts.

Sunday, February 27, 2011

Sorry a long post, what an awesome weekend

So I headed off on Saturday to Toowoomba to have a scrappy night of fun with these gorgeous girls, (oops just realised Belinda Lowe is missing). Leanne J was so lovely to have us all at her house. We laughed and scrapped and talked and scrapped, and laughed some more. The talent of all these ladies is amazing. I got so many ideas, I think it has given me a much needed boost for my scrapping after I have been feeling a bit blah over everthing I do at the moment.

Now the reason for the get-together was Gilly (in the middle in the green shirt) flew up from Sydney to see her friend Renee, so they thought they would have some scrapping time as well. In the photo L-R me, Leanne J, Tracey St Johnwood, Kim Jeffress, Gilly Lester, Renee, Lisa Amiet and Geli Duncan

and this is the wall of talent, some absolutely stunning layouts up there.

I got two layouts finished in amongst all the laughter and one almost finished. The sewing machine did not want to play nicely so I packed it up and bought the third home to finish. I wish I had of taken some more photos, I think I would have got a lot more layouts done. Anyways this layout was done using last month's Storyboard Kit with a few extras added. Miss Megs started Middle School (Year 7) this year with a change of campus, a change of uniform and a few nerves. She had a fabulous first day and is still loving it. Lots of gorgeous prima flowers, butterflies and swirly bling on the page. Loving it big time.

and a closeup of all that Prima goodness

This layout I did for The Boxx fortnightly challenge. The criteria is to use the word Love, Red and Lace on your layout. And this is what I came up with -

I used lots of goodies from this month's Polkadot Place kit, should have done some closeups, will try and get back with them later. By the way I LOVED this kit, so versatile and full of pretty things.

Ok, well I must go and cook some dinner, the kids are nagging me big time.

Thanks for dropping by.

Scrap the Boys will be back in March

Ok, just giving you all the heads up, Scrap the Boys will be up and running again in March. Here is a sneaky of my layout, if you look closely it might give you a clue of what the challenge will be.

Oh and yes I scrapped again. I have another layout in mind too, maybe I can pull out two in one day, I am finally back in the mood to scrap - YAY. I have missed it so and am still struggling to come up with ideas, but at least I feel like scrapping.
Hopefully I will be back again soon with a layout to show you.

New Polkadot Place Kit

Sorry this picture is sideways but blogger is not playing nicely today.

I got some happy mail yesterday and oooooohed and aaaaahed over these pretties for quite a while. I love this new kit Bridge, you have done a fabulous job. Head over to the blog and have a look at what the DT girls have come up with. I'm really looking forward to scrapping with this kit. If you want one too, be quick cause I bet this one will be sold out quickly

The mojo has returned

Well the hubby is away in Melbourne and the kids are on camp so I got to sit down this morning and scrap, for no reason, just because. And I pulled out a landscape which I NEVER do. These photos were taken on our trip to Europe late last year. We did a day trip to Giverny to see Claude Monet's garden. Unfortunately the flowers were all finished but it was just as stunning in autumn with all the trees turning.

So anyways, I started with an idea and this is where it took me, nothing like my original thoughts on how this layout was going to turn out but that's ok. I love that about scrapping, the creative process just tends to take over and Voila!!!

Most of the layout is made up from the December kit from the Polkadot Place with a few Lily Bee scraps and Prima leaves thrown in. I love the handmade flower that Bridge included in the kit.

and a close-up -

Last night while I had a quiet house I took the opportunity to go and see No Strings Attached with Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman. Not sure what the reviews said but this is seriously funny. Don't take your daughters, this is strictly Rated M 15+. My friend Tash went with me and we did it in class, Gold Class which was a bit decadent but sooooo nice. I could definately get used to it.
Ok it is lunchtime and I must go and clean up and get organised. Have to pick the kidlets up with all their camp gear this arvo which means lots of washing - sigh........ well at least I have had a nice break.
Take care

Scrapboxx February Sketch Challenge

After a break from scrapping for a month, I thought I would get stuck into this months Boxx Sketch Challenge. Julie Winks has done a fab sketch, I don't know that I have done it justice, but I guess I am at least glad I actually got a layout scrapped and in only 1 hour. Bonus, I can procrastinate on a page for a week sometimes.

Anyways here is the sketch

and here is my take on it.

The journalling reads - one beer, two anzac bickies and a carrot FOR SANTA and his reindeer.

Yay I scrapped, really pretty pleased with myself, I thought I may have forgotten how.

Thanks for stopping by.

xx Deb
